Aromatherapy has been used for thousands of years in many parts of the world, especially in the Eastern world. Since making it’s way to our part of the world, it continues to become more popular all the time. Among the many different ways it is used, aromatherapy skin care seems to be one of the most popular. Below we will examine how different combinations of essential oils are used to treat different skin types.

The oils used in aromatherapy skin care are derived from various plants and herbs found all over the world. These components come in various forms that are used many different ways. Some are applied directly to the skin, and are often an essential part of massage therapy. Others are ingested, in the form of herbal teas and the like. There are even some that are injected into the skin.

Normal Skin

No matter what type of skin you have, your main goal is to keep it clean and feeling refreshed. Aromatherapy skin care can accomplish this without the use of harsh chemicals and cleansers that often do more damage than good. For normal skin you can tone and maintain good balance with a combination of lavender, clary sage, lemon, and chamomile. This mixture can be massaged directly on the surface of the skin or it can be added to bath water. Combining it with hot water will release more fragrance and soothe the mind as well as the body.

Oily Skin

For oily skin, the goal of aromatherapy skin care is to clear the pores of any dirt, debris and skin cells that may be blocking them. When this happens, it causes the skin to over moisturize itself, and the result is oily skin. Pores can be cleared by using a mixture of lavender, clary sage, bergamot, and orange flower or rose water. This will act as a gentle cleanser that will clean and refresh the skin. Some chemicals designed for this purpose will tend to dry out the skin, leaving you with another problem to take care of.

Dry Skin

For dry skin, aromatherapy skin care must be used to create a moisturizer. A mixture of lavender, bergamot, rose water, almond, patchouli, and sandalwood will accomplish this for you. This mixture will act as a moisturizer that will leave your skin glowing, without having to resort to harsh chemicals. After all, that is the purpose of aromatherapy skin care. You want to give your skin the best care possible using only natural ingredients.

The fragrances of these aromatherapy skin care products will also give you some added health benefits. Relaxation and stress relief are two major positive effects that you will enjoy. Some of these scents have also been successfully used as remedies for insomnia. Aromatherapy skin care has numerous benefits for the body and mind.

Aromatherapy is often a preferred method of treatment for certain conditions in which you may not want to take medications when something more natural would do. An aromatherapy body spray is one of the best ways to practice aromatherapy as well as it being the easiest too. There are countless applications of this spray as well as many different types of essential oils that can be mixed together for maximum benefit.

When you choose a product which uses essential oils like an aromatherapy body spray, be advised that you should always choose one which uses carrier oil as the base for the product. This is because some essential oils have strong properties and could irritate or harm the skin in its natural, undiluted state.

Natural Muscle Relaxers

One of the more popular applications of essential oils is the use of them in natural muscle relaxers to ease aches and pains as well as strains. An aromatherapy body spray is the best application for muscles and you will find such essential oils as eucalyptus, peppermint, rosemary and lavender along with a sweet jojoba or sweet almond as the carrier oil. The combination of these essential oils works to relax muscles, improve circulation, and ease arthritis aches, pains and overall inflammation.

Mood Enhancers

An aromatherapy body spray with citrus essential oils are great for perking up your mood when you are feeling down or even just plain old lethargic. Lime, orange, grapefruit, tangerine and lemons are all great examples of pick-me-up citrus fruits in which the essential oils for your aromatherapy body spray is derived. In addition, mixing rosemary, lavender, spearmint, patchouli or geranium or a combination of several enhance the properties of the citrus essential oils.

Soothing Properties

Sometimes, you just need a soothing aromatherapy body spray to calm your nerves, reduce anxiety, ease nausea and improve mental clarity. Such essential oils as lavender, clary sage, ginger, rosewood, geranium and vanilla mixed with a carrier oil like sweet jojoba or even rosewater is an excellent mix for a soothing aromatherapy body spray which is perfect for expectant mothers or those people who lead stressful lives.

As mentioned above, there are countless mixtures of essential oils you can find in an aromatherapy body spray. You just have to decide what type of ailment you want to treat or what mental state you hope to achieve. Because every oil has different properties, it is quite easy to mix them to take care of more than one problem.

There’s nothing wrong with buying commercially made aromatherapy body lotions. Just be sure you can use it all up before it goes off. And you need to know how strong the scent is. If it is too strong, then you’ll need to either use a very small amount or blend it with an unscented baby body lotion. If you do not have any aromatherapy oils about, then you will have no choice but to go for ready made aromatherapy body lotions.

What To Do With Those Oils?

But if you do have one or more bottles of aromatherapy essential oils, then you want to get your money’s worth by using them in as many pleasant ways as you can think of. One of the easiest ways to make the most of expensive essential oils is to make small batches of aromatherapy body lotion. You usually wind up spending less than getting commercially made aromatherapy body lotions.

Let’s Stink In A Pretty Way

You need to know whether your essential oil is pure or diluted. You can use either one in making aromatherapy body lotions, but you will need a lot more of the diluted oils. You also need a base unscented body lotion. Believe it or not, they still sell this in drug stores and sometimes department stores. Ideally, you want a lotion very much like a baby lotion – usually white and creamy.

All you need to do is take a small handful of the lotion and pour in a couple of drops of your chosen aromatherapy oil. You can mix oils if you want to. However, don’t have more than 10% of your aromatherapy body lotion be oil. That will be too strong and can make you itch.

Also, please do some research on the aromatherapy oil you have. Know what this oil is supposed to do to you. If you want to seduce a man, wearing marjoram aromatherapy body lotion is a big no-no. Why? Because marjoram, despite it’s spicy scent, is a proven anaphropdisiac (which is the exact opposite of an aphrodisiac).

Test Patch

Before you slather your entire body with your home-made aromatherapy body lotion, you should do a test patch first. Make the tiniest little bit and apply it to your elbows, arms or a part of your limb that you can easily put medicine on in case something goes wrong. Leave it on for 24 hours, even after it is completely absorbed by the skin. Ideally, nothing bad should happen to that patch in the next 24 hours.

More and more of today’s skin and hair care products are made using essential oils and the people using these types of products are benefiting in several ways. Not only are they giving themselves top-notch skin and hair care, they’re also reaping the benefits of aromatherapy.

When it comes to using the essential oils that are such a big part of aromatherapy, it’s important to understand a bit about your skin and hair type. Each plant’s essential oils provide a number of different therapeutic benefits so knowing about your skin and hair will help you match up your needs with the appropriate ingredients.

Moisturizing your skin is as easy as adding suitable carrier oil into an essential oil that’s appropriate for your skin type and then massaging the combined treatment into your skin.

Aromatherapy skin and hair care products can cause problems for people who have sensitive skin or allergies. If you have a bad reaction to a product, whether it’s store-bought or homemade, discontinue use. If you’re unsure how you will react to an essential oil, test it on a small area first for a few days and see what happens.

If the problem you’re trying to alleviate isn’t going away, the products may not be working. If necessary, consult with a specialist for advice on how to proceed.

Which aromatherapy ingredients to use for skin/hair care and how?

For normal skin, try using rose, lavender or chamomile essential oils. Chamomile also works well on dry or sensitive skin and skin that is prone to acne or eczema. To use any of these oils, add several drops into your favorite fragrance-free face mask and use as directed. Or add right into your bath water.

Tee tree and cajeput oils also can help with acne. A good carrier oil to mix with these essential oils is grapeseed. You can also mix several drops with rose water to create a toner.

Sandalwood oil is effective at reducing some visible signs of aging such as wrinkles and dry skin. Rose oils, frankincense, neroli and geranium oils are also effective in treating mature skin.

Palmarosa oils are commonly used in both skin and hair care products. These oils have moisturizing and hydrating qualities and they stimulate cell regeneration.

Used neat or combined with carrier oil, the essential oils mentioned above can be massaged into skin or added to bath water. Besides mixing essential oils into carrier oils, you can also mix them into creams and lotions containing lanolin as long as these products don’t contain a fragrance. Then just gently massage into skin.

When excess exposure to the sun is a problem, massage affected areas with lavender or chamomile oils blended with carrier oil.

A good final rinse for hair is a mixture of apple cider vinegar, lemon essential oil and water. In a container, mix 4 teaspoons water, 2 teaspoons vinegar and 3 drops lemon oil. Massage into hair and rinse well.

One-half cup dry rosemary leaves mixed with 1/2 cup olive oil makes a good hot oil treatment for hair. Mix ingredients in a pan and heat. Strain. Coat hair with mixture then wrap in plastic for 20 minutes. Wash thoroughly.

Aromatherapy has long been known to help aid in healing, regenerating skin cells or even relaxing the body. Creating your own personal aromatherapy skin care, can be a healthy alternative to many products on the market today. In addition, it is designed specifically for your body.

What Oils Can Be Used In Aromatherapy Skin Care

When looking into aromatherapy skin care, it is important to discover the basic oils that are used and their properties. Learning about the benefits of each oil, can determine which should be used in creating an aromatherapy skin care line that will enhance and improve your own skin. If acne is an issue, Lavender, Tea Tree and Cajeput are essential oils that can be used to help with this condition. Add a few drops to rosewater and create your own toner. Purchase a fragrance and lanolin free cream and then add a few drops of the essential oil. This makes a lotion that can be massaged into the skin; if the skin is inflamed however, do not massage.Â

An aromatherapy skin care line can also use Frankincense, Neroli and Rose oil to help with aging skin. If you’re attempting to get rid of blackheads try these oils Eucalyptus and Lavender in a facial steam. Bruising is a common problem that can be helped with Lavender. This extremely versatile oil can be used to help bruising by adding it to a bath; or, putting the Lavender on a cotton ball and dabbing the bruised area.Â

When creating an aromatherapy skin care line, consider how often dry skin can be a problem. Rose, Sandalwood and of course, Lavender are oils that will reduce the affects of dry skin. Again, the best way to use these oils is by placing them in a lotion that is lanolin and fragrance free, and then massage it into the dry skin. This will help rejuvenate your skin, making it softer. For many women varicose veins are a problem. Use Cyprus or Myrrh oil in a bath, soak for about 15 minutes. These can also be used in lotion form; they work best on spider type varicose veins.

There are many other oils that can be used in an aromatherapy skin care line. Many, like Lavender, are used for multiple conditions with very good results. Some can be used in conjunction to form a relaxing bath that can help with insomnia or nervousness. Aromatherapy skin care is a wonderful personnel gift for friends and family too. Aromatherapy is a proven method to assist the body in a natural way.
