Essential oils can change your mood and the way you feel about yourself. Spritzing on an essential oil body spray after you shower or before you walk out the door is a great way to ensure that you will be in a good mood all day long.

When to Use Essential Oil Body Sprays

One of the best times to use an essential oil body spray is during the summertime when you are feeling flushed or over heated. If you commute to work during the summer on public transportation, then you know the feeling. The heat from the outside moves to inside your body, and you feel as if you are never going to cool off. You step off the bus or come up from the subway onto the hot street, and the heat seems to magnify and intensify with every move you make.

Now is the time to pull out your essential oil body spray to cool yourself off. The mist of the spray will cool your skin. Spray it on your pulse points: the insides of your wrists and elbows, the back of your knees, and at your throat. The cool mist will help reduce the temperature of your skin and help to calm you down. A cool scent like cucumber, peppermint, spearmint, or lime will put cool thoughts in your head.

Another great time to use essential oil body sprays is when you are feeling anxious or stressed out. This can happen during any season of the year, when you are work, at home, or with friends. Maybe you are dealing with a difficult person, a hard to please boss, or noisy children. Whatever the reason, tension builds to the point where you feel as if your head is about to explode.

Again, pull out the essential oil body spray and spray your neck and shoulders. The aroma from the essential oils in the body spray will float around your head, face and nose, releasing the full impact of the essential oils into your nostrils and sending the message to your brain that soothing, relaxing help is on the way. Some of the best stress-relieving aromatherapy body spray misters are lavender, chamomile, geranium, sage, spearmint, patchouli, lime, and peppermint.

Finally, you will appreciate the effects of essential oil body sprays when you are overly tired. If you have not gotten enough sleep, or you find that the day has stretched out longer than you anticipated, using a refreshing body oil spray of sweet orange, tangerine, grapefruit, and ginger will wake you right up and leave you feeling rejuvenated and refreshed.

They are also the most expensive. That is because a lot of work goes into the making of essential oil.

What Is Essential Oil?

Essential oil is liquid containing strong aroma molecules from plants. They are called “essential” because the oils contain the essence of the plant from which they are made of. Essential oil for perfumes can be made out of plant leaves, flowers, roots, peel, bark, wood, or seeds, as long as they have a very strong scent. Several essential oils may be mixed to make a particular scent for a perfume.

How Is Essential Oil Made for Perfumes?

There are several ways to make essential oil. Some plants are so fragile they are still manufactured by the ancient process of enfleurage. This process is very slow and expensive. Enfleurage uses fats to capture the fragrant molecules let off by the plants. Plants are either hung over the fat or mixed directly into the fat. This part of enfleurage is called solvent extraction. The scented fat is called “enfleurage pomade” and after the solvent extraction, what is called an ‘absolute’ is made from the enfleurage pomade by separating the fat from the essence. The enfleurage pomade is soaked in ethyl alcohol to draw the fragrance into the alcohol to make a perfume like mixture. The alcohol is then separated from the fat and is distilled. The byproduct of the distilled fat is the essential oil. The oil may then be filtered for purity.

Another way to make essential oil is by simple distilling. Distilling is the most common way to make essential oil for perfumes. The plant is laid on a grate over a vat of hot water. The vapor that is released goes into a condenser and is cooled while going through a pipe immersed in cold water. This aids in the cooling of the vapor and it becomes the essential oil during the cooling stage. The vapor then goes into what is called a separator. It is used to separate the essential oil from the water vapor. The oil may be filtered after this step. This process is much faster than enfleurage and can take from half an hour to six hours, depending on how much essential oil is being made for perfume. As you can see, the making of essential oil for perfume is a very long and tedious process.
